WTF WEDNESDAY: The Job Interview & Kim K

What up though?! You know what day it is! We're back at it guys, its WTF Wednesday! Well, so far my week has been alright. Today has started off with a blah feel. It was a struggle to get up this morning and when I got to school every one seems to be irritating me. (Sorry guys) But I know that after some time with my dear blog, I will feel all better!
Let's talk about this Kim K & Kanye West thing first! So he has proposed!
Kanye West’s union with Kim Kardashian is a match made in prenup lawyers’ heaven. But oddsmakers and some celeb watchers don’t expect it to last long.
I mean, it's not like I'm surprised or anything. They have a child for goodness sake! BUT then again, she literally just got through a divorce from NBA player, Kris Humphries, but hey! This is celebrity world, they can do stuff like that. Sources have reported that her ring is around 8 million dollars. Talk about a rock! 8 million though? I guess that's just the type of money you have to shell out when you're Kanye, but sheesh, that's mouths that can be fed, houses that can be built, a car (or a couple really) all placed on one little finger.
WTF?
Okay, well Kim and Kanye's engagement is already getting enough press, so I'll just stop right there so we can talk about me and my WTF situation.
The Interview
Wednesday, of last week, I saw some information on the white board in one of my classes. It said, "Good pay! Now hiring students!" and listed a number and website. I've been looking for a job after my job as a cashier at Barnes & Nobles quickly ended (No, I didn't do anything crazy. It was a temporary job). So I thought that little message on the white board was a sign! My boyfriend says I often take stupid things as signs, but I really did think it was! So as soon as I got out of the class I got on my phone, went to the website, and applied. I felt accomplished!
A few hours later, I got a call from a woman from the company I had applied for and she said she wanted to ask me a few questions. For a second I wasn't sure if I was talking to a prerecorded message or a real person because she felt the need to say my name in every statement she made.
She asked, "How did you find out about us CYNTHEA?" I answered. Then she asked, "Do you go to school CYNTHEA?" I answered. Then she said, "Well CYNTHEA, I am glad you chose our company..." and blah blah blah. She gave me the information about where to go, when to be there, and how to dress. That was it! My interview was scheduled for the next day. Quick, huh? Yeah, for a reason!
Thursday came along and I was all excited! I was excited because I knew I would finally be getting a job and Lord knows I needed it! My mom warned me, jobs like this are usually salesmen jobs and that I'll probably have to call people and do stupid work, but I figured I'd find out anyway. They emphasized on being on time, so I tried to be early, but I ended up getting there the exact time it was scheduled which was good enough for me!
Photo: Boss Lady. :)
My spiffy little outfit

I enter the building feeling all spiffy in my cute little professional outfit I had came up with moments before the interview and was seated in a quiet room with two other girls. One of the girls said she had an emergency call and never came back (now that's a sign!) Then a guy came in  a few moments after she left. So there was three of us. We went through this whole long, stretched out interview process where we filled out an application and had to wait for the managers to come speak to us.
Finally the lady who would be doing the interview came in and told us about the company...and well...yeah. Do you know what I had applied for ladies and gentlemen? A company that sales knives.....KNIVES!

You get paid by the appointment, not by the hour, and you have to find your own customers, and overall it was just a FAIL of a job. Trying to be positive about the whole situation, I decided that I would simply take this as a learning experience and I figured at least I was getting interview practice! We were told that at the end of the interview only one of us would get the job. At this point, I really didn't care if I got the job or not, I didn't want it! We were each called into her office to find out the results and how our interview went. When she called my name, I was not a bit of nervous. I walked into her office, she made me answer a few more questions, ya know, "Why should you get this job?" and blah blah blah. Of course I had to make up a bunch of stuff. But... it worked! She stood up, reached for my hand, I shook it, and she said I got the job.

Like really? The one job I did not want, I get?! Why must this world play with my life this way?
To put the cherry on top, after I was done I was expecting my boyfriend to pick me up but because of work duties...he couldn't. So, I walked approximately 3 er so miles home in the humidity all the way home. The next day, I called the company and told them I wouldn't be taking the job (Obviously). Oh what a night that was. A true WTF moment at its finest.

Lesson to take from this: Find out what EXACTLY you're applying for, before you do!

xoxo

My Weekend+

Hello loves,

Let's catch up! You haven't heard from me since Wednesday and I've actually done a few things worth talking about since then, so let's chat! We'll start from Saturday!
Saturday
A couple of weeks ago I signed up to get emails from this volunteer group at my school and Friday I got an email for my first volunteer event that I would go to on Saturday. I was very excited! They said we would be going to a homeless children's shelter doing some yard work with them, getting to know them and the facility, and teach them a bit about nutrition. When we were heading there I was expecting a bunch of sad and poor children with big puppy-dog eyes like from those depressing commercials. Instead, there were only 3 kids and they were definitely not little.
The first boy I met said he wanted to go to college in Alabama, not at LSU, and listed all of the sports he had played with a smile on his face. He helped with the yard work and pulled out the tough roots for me. He was polite, kind, and I  just couldn't see what he was doing in this place! After the yard work, I was taking the bags to the dumpster and one of the boys who lived there offered to take it for me. I could tell from the second I met him he was one of those heart-breakers at his school, but he was sweet. Then, after the yard work, I met the only girl. She seemed distant, but once you got to talking, she quickly spoke her mind like you had been best friends for years. I could tell she just wanted some friendship, some female attention. She talked about her favorite rapper and how she can twerk, it was quite hilarious.
I really enjoyed my time their with those kids, they were so inviting and all they needed was some love and good parenting, or in heart-breaker's case: a girlfriend. Yeah, he asked me for my number! I thought it was funny that a 16 year-old was asking me out, just to find out he was 13! What are they feeding these kids?
After my eventful couple hours volunteering I got home, went to my bed and laid there...for hours. I'm not sure if it was me being tired from the yard-work, or if I was just drained from the week overall, but I didn't want to get up! So later that night I got this sudden burst of energy and cleaned everything in the house and did a bit of decorating. My room is a work in progress so there is always something to add!
I got them to go with my vintage theme
A timeline of all of my photo booth pictures
Sunday
This day was like a perfect Fall day! It was nice and crisp outside, I had my laptop, and I went to a coffee shop. It was lovely. I went to this cute little (not actually little) coffee shop right off campus. It's really like a writer's heaven. I had just gotten my chai tea and chocolate muffin and sat down at the bar area right next to the window.

As I was settling in, there was this big loud fly buzzing around the window annoying the HECK out of me. I rolled up an old newspaper and WHACKED the stupid thing dead. I felt extremely proud of myself for killing a fly (you know those things are hard to kill) except when I realized where it landed...

Yeah! So I obviously got a new cup of tea and after that nice event, everything was peachy keen!
Monday
Yesterday was a good Monday! A good monday...what is that, right? Mondays are never good! Well, mine surprisingly was! It started with a cute outfit, if I do say so myself, and ended at this paint war called Splatterbeat.

Today
It's Tuesday but has definitely felt like a Monday. It was a struggle waking up, but I've been pretty productive I'd like to think! Can't wait for my bed and I to meet up again.
Well, that is it! All wrapped up in a nutshell! If that wasn't exciting enough for you, its WTF Wednesday tomorrow and WTF Wednesdays are wonderful! So, make sure to come back to me tomorrow.

WTF WEDNESDAYS

Yes! This is me!

Hey Readers!
So I have really enjoyed the feedback I have been receiving from you all! It is because of you all that I have decided to come up with a blog to look forward to every week! I pretty much write whenever I can, but "WTF Wednesdays" are blog entries you can for sure depend on! Now, what are WTF Wednesdays? They will be blog entries that are about something that happened to me, something that is in the media, or it can be stories I get from YOU GUYS. WTF Wednesday blogs are about situations and things that are just messed up or mind blowing, so it will be fun!
Okay, so let's see if I can paint a picture for you guys. So, it's night time and I'm at Walmart with my mom getting some last minute things before she heads back home and I go back to my college apartment. (When she comes to town she blesses me with the gift of food and house-hold items!) I was wearing an old pair of yoga pants, toms, can't remember what shirt, no make-up and just feeling all around bum-ish.
I was in the beauty side looking for whatever I had run out of at home. As I'm leaving the facial soap aisle, I'm approached by two guys. One guy appeared to be maybe in his late 30's, early 40's, it was hard to tell. I guess his few gold teeth and old 50 cent clothing style may have thrown me off. The other guy, well I didn't even really look at him until the end of the story. So let me tell you how this conversation went.

Mr. Gold Teeth: "Excuse me?" He hesitated to explain what he was about to ask for. "Uh, my daughter, uh, it's her time of the month and..."
Me: Laughing, "Yeah, do you need to know where they are?"
Mr.Gold Teeth: "Yeah! Can you show me please?"

Now, let me interrupt this real quick. Usually when  strange guys approach me, I brush them off quickly with a slight smile and keep it going! But this guy, for whatever reason, seemed harmless! He was looking for pads for goodness sake! Okay, anywayssss...

Me: Laughing again, "Yeah, ofcourse!"

So I start scanning the aisles looking for the feminine section as they follow behind me. I don't know why but  I couldn't find the aisle!

Me: "Hmmm...I think I must have passed it!"
Mr.Gold Teeth: Saying under his breath, "Yeah, you passed it."

Then suddenly, like a light bulb, it clicked that this goofy looking, 50 Cent wanna-be, old-enough-to-be-my-father-looking man was staring at my rump! Like, seriously? Who uses their "daughter's time of the month" to try and talk to someone? Boy, bye!

image

Me: "Okay, well I think you know where they are so I hope you find them!"

I smile, turn around, and start walking my butt away from them, but then...

Mr.Gold Teeth: "Wait, wait a second...what's your name?"
Me: Shaking my head, "Nah, I'm too young for you."
Mr.Gold Teeth: "How old are you?...Well then why don't you holla at my son real quick?"

Let me make this clear for you guys. A father and son approached me about feminine items for their daughter just to be creepers and eye-rape me, and THEN the old man tries to talk to me but after realizing I was too young for him he suggests HIS SON to talk to me! WTF?!

After he pointed towards his son, I looked at him laughing with disgust, thinking, "Are these people serious?" Then, his son stepped up and asked how old I was and at that point I just walked away. Once I found my mom in the store and told her what had just happened, she laughed and shook her head and we walked to the register, where Mr. Gold Teeth, his son, and a woman (his daughter maybe?) show up behind us and say nothing.
Lesson of the day: Don't help weirdos looking for pads!

How to Survive Midterms

For a lot of us, this week is known as: Midterm Week.
Midterm week is the week where all the fun in college just STOPS. Your teachers throw this big test at you and expect you to know all of the stuff you have went over so far (which you never do). Sadly, midterms aren't going to just disappear into little particles of glitter, THEY WILL HAPPEN. So the only way to do well on them is to prepare, prepare, prepare! Here is a list just for you (and me) on to survive them!

1) Know your schedule
Find out the order in which your tests take place so you can prioritize. You need to know which test comes first in order to figure out the best way you should study. If you have a planner (which you should) highlight each day you have a test. Then, right down the times each test is scheduled. You don't want to be late or forget about it!

2) Schedule study times
You HAVE to study! Unless you're one of the genius types, you really need to start studying as soon and as much as possible. Whether you're studying in a group or alone, your time needs to be scheduled. You should have a certain amount of time each day that are specifically dedicated to studying and ONLY studying. Use your time wisely and take it seriously.

3)It's okay to be childish!
Bring back the flashcards, highlighters, markers, songs, whatever it takes to memorize the information for the tests! Every time I have a test that has to do with memorization I bring out the flash cards. Sometimes I will even make a song in my head if it's catchy! Don't be embarrassed of your way of studying, because you'll be more embarrassed of the bad grade you get if you don't study.

4) DO NOT CRAM
I know it seems like the easiest thing to do sometimes, or you're just too lazy to study ahead of time, but you HAVE to. As my mom always says, "You never know what will happen tomorrow." It's true! You can't think that you'll save your studying for another day when you really NEVER know what will happen that day. For all you know you may sprain your ankle tomorrow and end up in the hospital, drugged up on medicine, and guess what? No studying for you! So, MAKE SURE YOU DO NOT WAIT FOR THE LAST MINUTE.

5) Get your Z's
The night before a big test, all you want to do is make sure you have soaked all the information in like a sponge, I know! But as a human, you need your sleep to function throughout the day. Staying up all night studying is not the productive way of studying. You will perform better after a good night's sleep, trust me!

The Little Things

Today as I was sitting in the library and watching all the life flowing around me, I was suddenly inspired to...walk! I just wanted to walk. Now if you're in college, you know we do a lot of that already, but this time I was walking to look and to see. I just wanted to see the beauty I could find throughout campus. Sounds poetic, right? (I know!) But seriously, things are so different when you're doing them for pleasure. I walk throughout the campus everyday but I never had an eye for the beauty this campus contains! If you don't know already I am a student at Louisiana State University. The school itself is pretty darn great. There is always something to do and so much history behind the tigers and our architecture. Here are just some shots I got while on my walk. All taken with my IPhone 4s by the way!

The view from one of our trees on the Parade Grounds. Throughout campus you will see these HUGE trees that are years and years and years old. They are so beautiful!

"The tower" I guess is what we call it here, I don't know it's exact name. Usually you can be anywhere on campus, look up, see it, and figure out where the heck you are.

I found this sticker on a "One Way" sign and I thought it was artsy. On campus here we have SO many talented and different people, this sticker just makes me wonder about the person that put it there.

These here are dead leaves from a magnolia tree. I personally LOVE magnolias, I remember when I first discovered the tree and the flower in West Virginia and I was so amazed at how big the flowers were, that love still sticks with me. (:

This is a view of "the quad." It is like the outdoor lounge area for everyone. It is located write in between a bunch of buildings and the library. You pretty much have to walk through it to get across campus, at least I do!

This....is just a walk way. Nothing real special, I just liked the shot!

Welp! That is all! I hope my little photographers and photography lovers could appreciate this one. :)

My Fall Favorites & Quick Update

First blog of October, yay!
It feels like forever since I have last blogged. Oh, how I miss it. You know, some people are made to be bloggers and some are made to be structured, factual, and precise writers. I'm really just trying to make my way in between! I love writing, but I hate having to structure my thoughts! It's like sneezing. You can't half way sneeze and try to adjust it along the way, when you sneeze, you sneeze and when I write, I write! Lord forgive me for my bad grammar! I'm working on it though!
Well, as much as we all care about my horrible writing skills, let's talk about fall!

Leaves: Reds, oranges, browns, okay how can you NOT love Fall? I love getting to take a step outside into a wonderland of leaves that are colors only nature could create.
Scarves: Yes, that is me on the right wearing a THICK warm sweater I got as a Christmas gift to the fair. I must admit I wasn't all that fond of it when I first got it, but after a couple uses I realized how versatile it is and how many outfits I could wear it with. Scarves are too amazing, they just dress your outfit like icing dresses a cupcake.

Spices: I'm talking pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg, chai...
Sounds like heaven, right? In the fall, Starbucks, Panera, and CC's Coffee become my best friend! They always bring back the pumpkin bread and the pumpkin spiced lattes and drinks, it's like taking a sip of smooth melted gold. Ahhhh, my mouth is watering.

Boots: Whether you're an Uggs person or you like military style or riding boots...WEAR 'EM! I don't know how much you guys are pullin' out for these boots, but I know mine tend to get expensive! So I see it this way, if you're gonna spend it, you should wear it, right? The lovely thing about boots is they can really be paired with anything! Based off the style of the boot or outfit, you can match a pair of boots to every outfit to make it just perfect.

Knit Sweaters: I may sound crazy but I really am NOT a fan of the Summer. I so much rather be wrapped up in clothing then be too hot to barely wear any! Sweaters can perfectly finish off a simple outfit and they have the power to completely change the look you're going for!

Note to my readers

Dear beautiful people,

I know, I suck. I've been a horrible blogger and haven't been giving any advice or even keeping you all in the loop! How horrible am I? I do apologize for that, but there is more to come. I've been completely swamped with homework, studying, quizzes, exams, and well... college! I will be brainstorming for new and fun ideas to keep you all interested, I promise! But seriously, I need your feedback and questions in order to give advice or write about the things you guys love, you know? So, help me out por favor!
