College students are often portrayed as hung-over, exhausted, or extremely sophisticated students walking around in a suit and tie. Welp! It's true. After first coming to campus for orientation, I realized almost every other girl had on a pair of nike shorts, an overly larger t-shirt, and sandals or tennis shoes. It was as if everyone was on their way to the gym! Really, college is about getting an education, not like in high school where you had to wear the cutest and most trendy things. I see that now. Here are a few of the styles I have discovered out here on the College Catwalk:
1) The Chill College Chic
THIS, my friends, is a college girl's uniform! Why? I truly do not know. Personally I just cannot commit to it. Maybe it has to do with my track & field background or maybe its the fact that I have a passion for fashion, but I just cannot walk out of the house like this unless I plan on going to the gym or running in and out of a corner store late at night. I guess a plus for dressing this way is that you don't spend 30 minutes trying to find a perfect outfit for the day, you just slap an old t-shirt and some shorts on and you're good!
2) The Laid Back & Trendy
Nothing's wrong with being a little comfy but if you're like me you want to be comfy AND cute. My idea is, you never know who you might meet or bump into that day. Let's say tomorrow I decide to wear an outfit like the one above and Tyra Banks decides to come to campus and does a model scouting right on sight! If I'm looking like a bum you better believe she will look right past me! So, just be prepared!
3)Office-ready
Now, there are some (very few) of us who get ready every morning as if we are going to an interview. You've got your hair slicked back and pinned up to perfection, Louis Vuitton heels on, and you feel sexy and chic. All that is great, don't get me wrong, but if you're like me, you can't walk around campus in heels all day and you're lucky if your hair comes out perfect that morning. I always say there is no such thing as being over dressed, only under dressed, so to my office-ready girls: More power to ya!
4) Hipster Girls
Who DOESN'T love a hipster girl? Those girls who mix such cute pieces together and just make it look totally cool? Yes! Why can't we all be one of those girls, right? These girls come to class as if they didn't really think about their outfit but they had a natural ability to put the right pieces together enough to look camera-ready. Love 'em! Keep doing your thing hipster girls!
Ladies, no matter what you wear to class as long as you're getting an education and you feel beautiful and confident while doing it, that's all that matters. Whether you're one of my girls wearing the college girl uniform or if you're a lovely hipster girl, if you feel good, keep doing it!
